The National Broadcasting Company is located in the GE Building in New York City’s Rockefeller Center. NBC was the first major broadcast network in the United States, founded in 1926 by RCA. The network is currently owned by General Electric and Vivendi.
CBS Broadcasting Inc., formerly known as Columbia Broadcasting System, is currently controlled by the National Amusements, Inc., a Massachusetts-based media and entertainment company that also controls Viacom, BET, MTV Networks, and Paramount Pictures.
The American Broadcasting Company, headquartered in Manhattan with programming offices in Burbank, California, is currently owned by The Walt Disney Company. ABC owns and operates ten television broadcasting stations and distributes programming to 224 affiliated stations.
Fox Broadcasting Company, also known as FOX, is owned by the Fox Entertainment Group, which is part of the media conglomerate News Corporation. FOX was founded by Rupert Murdoch after News Corporation took control of 20th Century-Fox Film Corporation.
Cable News Network, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, provides 24-hour per day cable television news services. CNN is managed by the Turner Broadcasting System, which is part of the Time Warner Company. With its worldwide news bureaus and editorial operations, CNN reaches approximately 1.5 billion people in more than 200 countries and territories.
The Public Broadcasting Service is a private nonprofit media enterprise that is owned by its member U.S.-based public television stations. PBS provides educational television programming and related services to 355 noncommercial television stations across the United States and its territories, reaching to 73 million people in nearly 46 million homes.
