Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie Voight, more commonly known as Angelina Jolie, is no stranger to the spotlight.

Born in Los Angeles, California on June 4, 1975, she began studying the art of acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City when she was only 11. She joined quite a few stage productions at Lee Strasberg. Later on, she went to New York University and majored in film.

Angelina Jolie is a favorite guest in music videos like those for Meat Loaf, Lenny Kravitz, The Rolling Stones, The Lemonheads, and Antonello Venditti. She worked as a professional model in Los Angeles, New York and London.

Her parents separated when she was only a year old. Her mother, former actress Marcheline Bertrand, died of cancer in 2007. She is currently estranged from her father, actor Jon Voight. James Haven Voight, her only sibling, has appeared in several films and is now a known filmmaker.

At the age of seven, Angelina Jolie debuted in a film called Lookin’ to Get Out. To date, she has appeared in more than 25 films, and has won 19 prestigious awards. Among her most praised performances are those in the movies Girl, Interrupted, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Gia, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and Gone in Sixty Seconds.

Angelina Jolie portrayed the role of Marian Pearl in A Mighty Heart, the controversial story of a married woman who embarked on a troubled search to locate her missing husband, journalist Daniel Pearl. This film earned for her a Golden Globe nomination in 2008.

Another realistic depiction is her latest performance in 2008’s Changeling, where she played the role of a mother who struggled while looking for her abducted child. This movie earned her Oscar and Golden Globe nominations.

In August 2001, after visiting Pakistan, Tanzania, and Sierra Leone, Angelina Jolie became the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, Switzerland.
