One of the greatest pop stars during the 80’s, Michael Joseph Jackson began singing at the young age of five.

Born on August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana, Michael Jackson started his career as a performer in various nightclubs in Chicago, along with his four brothers Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and Jackie.

He was once part of his family’s musical group called The Jackson Five. They topped the billboard charts with four consecutive #1 hits back in the 70’s. Led by the young Michael Jackson, he and his brothers made music history with their youthful singing and eye-catching choreography.

The seventh of nine siblings, Michael Jackson grew up in a working-class family and as a Jehovah’s Witness because of his mother, Katherine Esther Jackson, who was a devout follower. His father, Joseph Walter Jackson, was the manager of their famous singing group.

It was in 1972 that Michael Jackson began his solo career and released his first album, Got to Be There. His second album, Off The Wall, made him widely known in the music industry as one of the greatest entertainers of all time. With the release of his third album, Thriller, he earned seven top 10 hits and eventually got the title “King of Pop.” This critically acclaimed third album was said to have sold more than 100 million copies and remains the best-selling album of all time.

The three albums that followed were also hits of their own. Bad won two Grammy Awards, while Dangerous sold over 30 million copies worldwide. His 9th studio album, HIStory, gained five Grammy nominations.

Some of Michael Jackson’s most memorable performances include his first solo hit “Ben” and his performance as Scarecrow in 1978’s The Wiz, where he contributed excellent dance work.

Through out his music career, he has received 22 American Music Awards, 19 Grammy Awards, 13 MTV Awards, and 12 World Music Awards.
