Born David Robert Joseph Beckham on May 2, 1975, Beckham is a soccer superstar who currently plays for Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy. Prior to joining the team in the United States in 2007, he played midfield for Real Madrid and Manchester United, and was captain of the English national team from 2000 to 2006; he also scored in three different FIFA World Cups.

David Beckham’s professional career started when he played for United Manchester in 1992. During his stint at United, he has made nearly 400 appearances for the team and scored 85 goals; United also won the Premier League six times and the FA Cup twice. In 1999, Beckham won the Champions League, an Intercontinental Cup, and an English league title. In 2003, Beckham joined Real Madrid, where he played for four seasons. In 2005, Beckham opened The David Beckham Academy, a soccer school for children aged 8 to 15, in the United Kingdom and in Los Angeles. In the same year, he was a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and also helped promote London’s bid for the Olympic Games in 2012. In the 2006-07 interim, he won the La Liga championship title. During the FIFA World Cup 2006, he played for England and he was the first ever English player to score in three World Cups. In 2007, Beckham joined the Los Angeles Galaxy on a five-year contract for $250 million, which includes merchandising endorsements and profit-sharing. The professional soccer player is married to Victoria Beckham, a member of the famous Spice Girls; they have three sons.
