One of the most famous sports icon of all time, Michael Jordan is a retired American professional basketball player and an active businessman. Born on February 17, 1963 in New York City, Michael Jeffrey Jordan was raised in Wilmington, North Carolina. After high school, Michael Jordan accepted a basketball scholarship from the University of North Carolina, where he became player of the year twice. In 1984, he left college to play with Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Prior to joining the Bulls, Michael Jordan was part of the U.S. basketball team at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles where they grabbed the gold medal. His first season with the Bulls earned him top scores in the league, achieving an average of 28.2 points per game and grabbing the Rookie of the Year award. In 1993, Michael Jordan retired to pursue a baseball career, but returned to the Bulls in 1995.
During his entire stint with the Bulls, Jordan was named NBA’s Most Valuable Player for five times (1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, and 1998). He also became a six-time NBA Finals Most Valuable Player (1991-1993, 1996-1998). Jordan also became a member of the U.S. Olympic basketball team for the 1992 Olympics in Spain where they won the gold medal. His other accomplishments include nine All-Defensive First Team honors, three All-Star MVP awards, ten All-NBA First Team designations, the 1988 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award, six NBA Champion titles, and fourteen NBA All-Star Game appearances.
In 1999, he retired for the second time. In 2000, he became part-owner and president of the basketball operations of the Washington Wizards. In 2001, he played for two more NBA seasons with the Wizards until he finally retired in 2003.
Additionally, Jordan has made several product endorsements and he is presently a part-owner of the Charlotte Bobcats in North Carolina.
