Interviewee: Susan Boyle
Date: April 16, 2009

Born in April 1st of 1961, Susan Boyle is a Scottish singer who rose to international stardom last April of this year when she joined Britain’s Got Talent singing Les Miserables’ “I Dreamed a Dream.”

She has gained renown because of her powerful singing voice and her plain appearance when she sings on stage. The audience’s first impression of Boyle, who had a standing ovation after her performance at the show, resulted to massive popularity in the international media as well as on the Web. Within only nine days of the show’s audition, her videos from interviews and her 1999 version of “Cry Me a River” had been streamed more than 100 million times, earning an online record. In spite of the media constantly having interest on her, she only won second place in the show’s finals, next to the dance group called Diversity.

Susan Boyle’s first album is titled I Dreamed A Dream and was released on the 23rd of November 2009, which is said to be the best selling album pre-sales on Amazon. The record’s first single is a rendition of the Jagger/Richards song called “Wild Horses.” Other songs that included in the album are: “Memory,” “Cry Me a River,” “You’ll See” and the eponymous “I Dreamed a Dream.”

Born in Blackburn, West Lothian, Boyle was born to Patrick and Bridget Boyle, both immigrants from County Donegal, Ireland. Her father was a miner, singer, and a World War II veteran, while her mother was a shorthand typist.

Before all the success that she has achieved, she used to work as a trainee cook in the West Lothian College’s kitchen. She as well participated in its government training programs. She frequently visited the theatre to listen to professional performers and performed at various local venues and entered local talent shows.
